TDG Application (Second round)

Applications are now invited for TDG for the 2025-28 triennium (Second round). All full-time academic and teaching staff members are eligible to apply for TDG. Details of the TDG guidelines and relevant forms are attached. Some key elements are extracted below for your information.

Thematic Areas

The University will support prospective initiatives that align with its strategic objectives and the key themes identified by the University Grants Committee (UGC). Initiatives focusing on themes (i) – (iv) below will be of higher priority.

The four themes identified by the UGC are:

  1. Integrating generative AI/innovative technologies in education;
  2. Sharing of exemplary practice in teaching and learning;
  3. Student well-being and personal growth; and
  4. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

Funding Level and Disbursement

The TDG supports two project categories with different funding levels and durations. A matching fund strategy is adopted for competitive-bid TDG projects, with the matching fund requirements varying by project category, as set out below.

Funding LevelNormal durationMatching fund required from Faculty/ Unit
Category (I)$50,000 to $150,000At most 12 monthsNo matching fund will be required
Category (II)$150,001 to $600,00012 – 18 monthsA matching fund equivalent to 20% of the approved project budget

Category (II) applicants who will be the budget holder of the project initiative may consult his/her affiliated faculty or unit for the matching fund arrangement before making a formal proposal submission.

Scope of Fund Use

To ensure an effective use of the budget, no more than 30% of the budget be allocated on hardware facilities or equipment items.

Supportive Measures

Around 25% of funding will be ring-fenced for applicants who are from teaching track or joined EdUHK within 3 years; and have not managed a TDG Project as Principal Project Supervisor at EdUHK before. These colleagues can also apply for an optional Mentorship Scheme. Those who wish to join the Scheme could complete and return the Expression of Intentions (EoI) to us by 22 April 2026 (Wednesday).

To support applicants to carry out projects on emerging technology, they can identify their needs or suggest the necessary emerging technology-related workshops/coursesin their proposal as a staff professional development measure. Relevant cost will be absorbed centrally. If the proposal is approved, the workshops/courses will be arranged by LTTC and open for all staff members.

If you are interested in reading proposals of previous TDG projects, please contact Miss Fanny Liu (ext. 8059 or email at yfliu@eduhk.hk) for arrangement. We will open these proposals for access until the deadline for TDG application this round, i.e. 29 May 2026 (Fri). No photocopying and/or photo-taking will be allowed during reading the proposals.
