Abstract:
Phase I of this project developed a databank of on-line video resources to support postgraduate students in the preparation and implementation of their research. It can also serve as a training tool for novice supervisors, which is timely at this stage of HKIEd’s development. The program comprises 94 videos of interviews (up to 15 minutes each) with research students and experienced staff, and consultations between students and their supervisor. In the videos, staff and students share their expertise and experiences in handling methodological and practical challenges arising in the conduct of their research. The videos may be accessed at http://iell.web.ied.edu.hk/InternationalEducator/ (N.B. Please use Chrome or Firefox, as IE cannot support the software). This Phase II project would increase the range of subject matter by focusing on different research methods. The project would produce around 60 new videos, including interviews with specialists or students who have used certain techniques and some brief introductions to techniques supported by graphics. Research methods would include scientific inquiry, philosophical inquiry, hermeneutic studies, evaluative studies, the use of statistics, case studies, and so on. Colleagues and students from across the three faculties will be invited to contribute their experiences.
