They can also provide reflections, art creations and art appreciation articles on the platform showcased to encourage the communication and the social interaction among visual arts teachers for life-long learning in art educational lesson plan design, art creation and art critics. The project helps in developing cultural identity outside the classrooms by digital learning and our teaching materials recommended. Result:

Visual arts teachers can use the curriculum or activities designed to modify their teaching in schools. Contextual learning and Chinese ink appreciation of visual arts teachers will increase their interests in Chinese painting and cultural awareness of public. PI visited several primary and secondary schools to monitor the curriculum design and for thematic discussion. After the trial teaching of pre-service teachers and discussion about the lesson plans, they will modify their teaching designs, the observation and art creations from participating schools (7 schools in total, one could not arrange under pandemic). The project gathered a group of CORE Chinese Art Educational pre-service teachers of EDUHK focusing on Chinese painting teaching and learning by creating and modifying a Chinese ink website as a teaching and learning platform for Hong Kong art education.
The online platform included interviews and talk sharing with ink artists, demonstration videos, animation, articles, art appreciation, reflections and curriculum design of Chinese ink with the students’ ink works that helps in promoting the Chinese ink and cultural studies in Hong Kong.

Impact:

Under the pandemic situation, we could feel the passion and enjoyment in art creation and art appreciation of Hong Kong teachers and students through the project.
We selected Chinese cultural and ink studies to be our topic since we discovered that teachers’ training did not concern this area. However, after the continued modifying and discussion the lesson plans and our teaching, participated visual arts teachers and students could enjoy the art creation and studying, especially for young students. Active pedagogies, suitable learning objectives and topic, right contextual education, clear instruction, and encouragement would rise the motivation of all learners, even in traditional media. Learner could build up cultural awareness and critical thinking by reflecting to the development of Chinese painting history and Hong Kong modern ink history through our project.
After the project, we encouraged visual arts teachers’, pre-service teachers’ and students’ learner autonomy and life-long learning from museums and digital educational platform. It would be a major trend in recent years to encourage learners to take their own responsibility of learning and life-long learning through internet. The website, exhibition and publication of the project provided opportunity and learning environment for Hong Kong art educators who are interested in Chinese ink and Hong Kong modern ink.
