Special Grant for Strategic Development of Virtual Teaching and Learning (2021-2023)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual teaching and learning (VTL) has been widely adopted to substitute the traditional face-to-face mode. In order to support the pursuit of a forward-looking and coherent approach in the adoption of VTL technologies in higher education institutions, the University Grants Committee (UGC) and Quality Assurance Council have introduced a one-off Special Grant for Strategic Development of Virtual Teaching and Learning (the Special Grant) to UGC-funded universities, comprising (i) initiatives developed by individual universities, and (ii) inter-institutional collaborative activities to be jointly undertaken with contributions from two or more UGC-funded universities.

The four themes (broad categories) of the Special Grant are as follows:

  1. Governance frameworks, assessment methods, quality assurance systems and professional best practice of VTL;
  2. Enrichment of the overall educational experience of virtual learning;
  3. New strategies, pedagogies, platforms and facilities in pursuit of longer-term visions on VTL; and
  4. Integration of VTL into scenarios such as practicum and on-site learning.
