Integrating an Online Learning Platform through Moodle to Enhance Students Self-Learning on Health and Fitness Courses

Abstract:

This project applied Moodle as a new online learning platform for the Health and Fitness courses in the Undergraduate Program of the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE). Moodle is a course management system that enhances teaching and promotes learning. The implementation of Moodle allows lecturers to build and deliver the course resources (e.g., text, media materials and external links) and activities (e.g., creating assignments, managing forums and building groups) effectively to engaged students in active learning. The application of Moodle is based on a constructivism point of view in education that students actively learnt new knowledge as they interact with their environment. Within the context of this learning platform, students will be engaged in both self-directed and teacher-directed mode of learning. The project utilized Moodle featured tools, e.g., Blog, Journal and Wiki that supported students’ reflective and collaborative learning on the on-line learning platform
