Integration of Virtual Learning Environment Through Moodle to Enhance Students Reflective and Collaborative Learning on Gymnastic and Physical Fitness Course

Abstract:

Pre-service PE teachers are required to learn the pedagogy and technical skill of teaching at least eight different physical activities from not less than four areas. Gymnastic and physical fitness activities are two of the major areas that included in the recommended list of subject area in the school-based PE curriculum. In local context, there is limited resource available to facilitate the teaching and learning of the subject.
The purpose of this project is to enhance the teaching and learning of gymnastic and physical fitness courses hosted under the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) of HKIED targeting the pre-service PE teachers. The proposed project will begin with the production of the teaching resources package that supports the teaching of gymnastics and physical fitness courses. The course materials will be applied in the Moodle platform to integrate a virtual learning environment using the moodle featured tools that support students’ reflective and collaborative learning. A course e-portfolio will be produced for sharing the materials with academic/ teaching colleagues in education sectors.

The courses had been implemented in the academic year of 2014-15.
