Abstract:
This project aims to develop a set of rich and comprehensive online resources on early childhood visual arts education. To start up with a digital resource data bank in order to develop various online activities and tasks. The data bank includes articles, masterpiece artworks, children’s artworks, lesson plans and video clips, etc. With these resources, various tasks and activities would be developed. For instance, exercises like analyzing children’s artworks or appreciation of masterpieces online with self-checking function

Result:
A databank of resources related to early childhood art education was established. The entire databank consists of 15 professional website links, 160 video clips, 7 international reports and 4 e-books with pdf files, 39 master/doctoral dissertations downloaded, 283 references with 183 downloaded journal articles, 22 sets of article summary with questions. The databank was categorized into 7 domains, including Curriculum-Pedagogy, Curriculum-Media, Creativity, Aesthetics, Integration, Art and Music Integration, Public Art. Each category has 2-7 types of materials. A total of 150 MC questions and a series of powerpoint on art education history and appreciation in early childhood settings were also developed.
Impact:
Through this project, the team members got a rich databank in form of electronic materials. More on-line activities were set for students, such as quiz and discussion on the video clips. In-service students were more motivated to use on-line resources whilst pre-service students found the resources not only support their learning in the taught course but also their teaching practices.
The outcomes of this project provided team members with rich references and resources not only on the topics that one was teaching, but also others. In this way, team members also share their views and pedagogies in the area. This serves a good starting point to further develop research ideas among this specific area, early childhood visual arts education.
