Abstract:
The air quality can have significant impact to human health, especially the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). However, the textbook in Hong Kong nowadays lacks detailed description of IAQ as well as the monitoring process. In that case, a set of teaching package was needed to promote teaching and learning process about IAQ. On the other hand, the IAQ knowledge is also part of STEM education, which integrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics together. The STEM education has been considered as one effective way to make student learning more connected and relevant in recent years. Through asking questions and then discovering the answers by students themselves, inquiry-based learning model could fit well with STEM education which promoting students’ critical thinking and innovation.
In this project, a whole set of teaching package was built, which including monitoring instrument, website, relevant teaching materials and so on. The materials and instruments aimed to facilitate teaching and learning process relevant to IAQ. In addition, the sharing sessions and workshops were conducted to secondary school, which also achieved great success.

Result:
The instrument could detect instantaneous concentration of three common IAQ pollutants and could be assembled by students based on our guide videos. In addition, since the unexpected situation of COVID-19, online teaching mode became the mainstream this year. The teaching materials were also improved to fit the teaching environment. A website corresponding to our designed teaching process was also developed. The website contained 3D instrument instruction, guide video, simulation ex eriment and so on. These resources could support teachers to conduct their online courses and students could even learn relevant knowledge by themselves.
Impact:
This project could let students attach huge importance to IAQ in their daily life. Through our STEM activities, students had a visible and perceptual understanding of IAQ. After our workshops and sharing sessions, the pre-test and post-test also revealed that students had deeper understanding and concern about IAQ problems.
Moreover, this project also helped teachers to deliver IAQ courses in online mode. It provided an opportunity for students to practice and learn more about IAQ knowledge from our learning package. Due to the severe situation of COVID-19. Many courses had to be conducted in online mode, and this change brought more obstacles for science subject. Many experiments and field researches could not be well proceeded, and this situation could extremely influence the teaching efficiency of STEM courses. The website was useful for online teaching mode and self-learning.
In addition, this project promoted the development of STEM education. In the workshops, teachers could not only deliver science knowledge, but also used the instrument to let students closely observe the sensors and circuit. Combining advanced technologies in teaching activities increased students' interests in STEM and their curiosity in science subjects.
