Abstract:
This project was a continuation of a Departmental TDG pilot project that was implemented in 2011-2012 with two selected sample groups comprising Year 1 and Year 4 Music and Visual Arts students. This project required students to apply and demonstrate reflective and critical thinking using the “E-progress mapping” instrument that was developed in the pilot project. In addition to providing students with a self-monitoring instrument for progress tracking, progress checking and achievement setting towards their professional goals, it enabled individual students to critically reflect on their own progress in the process of achieving the various subject learning outcomes in their Music and Visual Arts studies. Both students and lecturers were benefited from such a reflective mechanism for evaluation and quality enhancement purposes. This project was evaluated with feedback from staff, students and external reviewers.

Result:
From the results of project evaluation, it was found that students’ attitude towards e-portfolio usage became more positive. More than 2/3 of surveyed students agreed that “e-portfolio has helped me reflect in my learning”, “e-portfolio has helped me think ahead my professional identity in the future”, “e-portfolio has helped me develop my organizational skills”, “e-portfolio has helped me develop my IT skill”. Besides, students became more aware of their own competencies through e-portfolio building.
Through this project, students have increased their understanding of their programme learning outcomes. Students’ ICT skills, including video and audio clip preparation and communication skills were also improved. With the deployment of the Mahara platform, knowledge and artwork sharing, and Learning community among Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) students has gradually been formed.
Impact:
This project provided a reflective mechanism for evaluation and quality enhancement purposes for both the lectures and students in the Department. It provided students with a self-monitoring instrument for progress tracking, progress checking and achievement setting towards their professional goals.
