Abstract:
The aim of this one-year project was to review the BEd Core Curriculum of the subjects of Music, Physical Education, and Visual Arts in light of the:
New Senior Secondary School Curriculum;
implementation of the new ‘334’ academic structure; and
adoption of the Outcome-based Education approach.
With the support of a research assistant, academic and teaching staffs were engaged in an extensive review of all subject modules. Curriculum documents obtained from local and overseas tertiary institutions were served for benchmarking purposes. It was expected that the project would help refine and update the curriculum designed for the BEd programmes under the custody of the Faculty.

Impact:
The project achieved its major objective of reviewing the existing BEd curriculum for the subject of Music and Visual Arts. It revised the course outlines in consideration of suggestions of external subject experts, Institute’s 4Cs, the NSS curriculum and the OBL approach. The revised course outlines and structure were implemented in the new 335 academic structure in 2011-2012.
Besides, during the review process, common courses were identified and aligned for existing and developing programmes. Also, through comparison of courses offered by local and overseas universities, colleagues gained knowledge in the current development of teaching and learning of the subject. With the introduction of OBL approach in the course delivery, the coherence of course aims content and assessment was enhanced.
