Using Digital Lectures to Enhance Students’ Competences in Conducting Chinese Language Education Research

Abstract:

This proposed project aims to enhance students’ competences in conducting language education research through the production of a series of digital lectures; and to strengthen staff pedagogical thoughtfulness as a learning community through establishing a technology-enhanced environment in the Department of CHL. The idea of this project is generated from a fruitful TDG project “Development of digital lectures in the Department of Chinese Language Studies” and a CHL’s One-line Supported Research Project “Learning by doing: Exploring the teaching potentials of digital lectures” to explore the potentials of e-learning innovation in the research of Chinese teaching. This project will provide support for (i) producing digital lectures; (ii) sharing pedagogies for digital lectures; (iii) developing a departmental digital lecture database. The production of digital lectures will prompt the lecturer participants to reflect on and review the crucial elements of Chinese language education and relevant studies in the contemporary context. The revisiting of their past teaching experiences will become catalyst for department-wide improvement which can transform our capacity that leads to a better learning experience for students. By engaging students in digital lectures, the project will also facilitate the students’ development of competences in conducting language education research and enrich their learning experiences of e-learning and Self-directed Learning (SDL).

本研究計畫共製作了21個電子課堂, 課題以語文教育研究為核心, 內容豐富, 從選題、研究進程、研究方法至論文撰寫也有所涉及。計劃共有44位學生參加,受益對象多元, 包括BEd(CL)五年級(語文教育研究、本科研究)、四年級、三年級、PGDE(P)和BA(TCSL)的學生。整個學習歷程中,學生可隨時隨地透過電子學習平台,與教師和同學進行溝通和交流,教師亦能針對學生的學習需要和難點作出反饋。另外,計劃舉辦了兩次分享會, 向校內師生及公眾人士分享計劃成效,總結研究經驗,參與者反應正面。

Impact:

本研究計畫透過學生進行前後測比較、問卷和焦點小組討論,收集研究成果。參與學生提高了進行語文教育研究的能力和信心,對語文教育研究有更深入和更廣闊的理解, 在收集和分析研究數據,以及撰寫畢業論文上應用到在電子課堂中所學的技巧。參與教師豐富了其電子教學的經驗,了解到製作電子課堂的進程,促進其專業發展,並與同儕進行教學交流,反思和探索更有效的教學策略。
