Abstract:
Funded by the Teaching Development Grant, Mr Nicholas Wong founded Writing-Plus, which is an online e-learning platform offering free teaching materials designed by international poets, writers and translators. This project intends to provide local teachers with practical ideas for promoting literary appreciation and creative writing, which would in turn enhance learning English as a second language. The project aims to promote and foster students’ innovation and creativity, and strength their capability as pre-service teachers to teach English language creative writing.

Result:
The launch of Writing-Plus features pedagogical materials by a range of international writers. Writing-Plus has also partnered with the Hong Kong International Literary Festival in the "Urban Love Poem" and "Wish" poetry contest initiatives, hoping to promote also creative writing in secondary education. In addition, Writing-Plus also aims at exploring the intersection of creative language and bodily experience, as evidenced by the two workshops co-organised by the local literary party, Fleurs des Lettres, and Tai Kwun. In order to promote creative writing and world writings, Writing-Plus also collaborated with Asymptote, an international translation magazine in publishing three extensive thematic educational packets.
Impact:
Despite being severely disrupted by the global pandemic, the project was responsive to limitations and still able to make substantial change that resulted in considerable impacts. Through online communication with international poets, writers and translators, Writing-Plus has published 39 sets of pedagogical materials. The project has also shown immense interest in promoting English language creative writing in secondary education and organising inter-disciplinary writing workshops for interested individuals.
