Applications are now invited for TDG 2023/24 (Second round). All full-time academic and teaching staff members are eligible to apply for TDG. The two-stage application will continue to be adopted. Details of the TDG guidelines and relevant forms are attached. Some key elements for the coming round are extracted below for your information.
Thematic Areas
In light of the latest development and the keen interest in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded sector, the UGC, on top of the central theme of Virtual Teaching and Learning (VTL), has endorsed “harnessing innovative and breakthrough technologies for teaching development” as another focus of the TDG for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years. Initiatives promoting VTL as well as the use of generative AI (e.g. pedagogy development, student support, staff training and implementation of specific initiatives/strategies) related to the areas (i) – (iii) below will be of higher priority. Nevertheless, colleagues will not be precluded from using the TDG for projects which may not have direct relevance to VTL topics.
- Enhancement of curriculum/programme innovation through non-face-to-face interaction;
- Internationalisation through a virtual environment; and
- Use of technology in assessment and providing feedback.
Funding Level and Disbursement
There are two types of projects, with different funding level and duration:
- Faculty-level TDG projects – up to $400,000 and normally lasts for 12 – 18 months.
- University-level TDG projects – above $400,000 and normally lasts for 24 months.
Applicants should note that, project fund for all university-level projects with duration of two or more years will be disbursed by two installments, while one-off disbursement will be made to other projects with shorter project period. Please refer to the TDG guidelines for details.
In order to meet the University Grants Committee’s reporting timeline for TDG, projects with duration from 1 April 2024 to 31 May 2025 (14 months) are more preferrable.
Scope of Fund Use
To ensure an effective use of the budget, no more than 30% of the budget be allocated on hardware facilities or equipment items.
Supportive Measures
Around 25% of funding will be ring-fenced for applicants who are from teaching track or joined EdUHK within 3 years; and have not managed a TDG Project as Principal Project Supervisor at EdUHK before. These colleagues can also apply for an optional Mentorship Scheme. Those who wish to join the scheme could complete and return the Expression of Intentions (EoI) to us by 1 November 2023.
To support applicants to carry out VTL projects, they can identify their needs or suggest the necessary VTL-related workshops/courses in their proposal as a staff professional development measure. Relevant cost will be absorbed centrally. If the proposal is approved, the workshops/courses will be arranged by LTTC and targeted to all staff members.
If you are interested in reading proposals of previous TDG projects, please contact Miss Fanny Liu (ext. 8059 or email at yfliu@eduhk.hk) for arrangement. We will open these proposals for access until the deadline for TDG application this round, i.e. 15 November 2023 (Wednesday). No photocopying and/or photo-taking will be allowed during reading the proposals.
