Developing the 334 Curriculum in Faculty of Arts and Sciences

Abstract:

This project supported the subject review and development exercise in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The project team, led by the Associate Dean (Programmes/334)(AS), consisted of representatives from the subject areas in the Faculty. The objectives of the project are to:

review the existing subject components identifying the core, elective and additional elements for the new undergraduate programme,
consider the module offering plan,
design new areas of study in the major, minor and other related domains,
work out how the curriculum can be best implemented for the double cohorts, 
configure learning pathways for students,
revise the admission requirements; and
determine elements that can have early implementation prior to 2012.

This project assisted the subject review under the new 334 curriculum and the development and preparation of Outcome Based Learning (OBL) approach.
For the subject review, it assisted the Faculty in the development and discussion in design of Honor project, as well as the issue of articulating the modules in 334 BEd programmes with Master Degree Programmes. Suggestions made were then put forward to relevant Committee for consideration.
For the development of OBL modules, it coordinated the pilot implementation of OBL-embedded modules at departmental and programme levels. It also assisted setting up the schedule and development of quality assurance mechanism for OBL modules/ courses.

Impact:

The project successfully reviewed the existing subject components and identified the core, elective and additional elements for the new undergraduate programme. It built up the foundation and curriculum of with evidences for the programme BEd programmes under the new 334 curriculum.
