Abstract:
This TDG project comprised 4 stages. First, feedback from teaching colleagues and students on the first pilot Outcome Based Learning (OBL) embedded module in Semester 1 of 2009-2010 was reviewed. This was then followed by the development of OBL teaching in a teaching-related module and an academic studies module in semester 2 of 2009-2010. The feedback from teaching colleagues and students on these two OBL embedded modules was studied for planning of full implementation of OBL teaching in the subsequent semesters.

Result:
The project conducted various activities e.g. staff development workshops/seminars, academic exchange, pilot run on OBL-embedded courses, and experience sharing so as to enhance the development of course related to Science and Environmental Studies in the subject areas of General Studies and Liberal Studies. Follow up activities were also carried out:
Encouraging Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES) colleagues. To attend professional development activities organized by the OBL unit
Exploring possibility of collaboration in research works
Developing an electronic drop box system to provide a platform for colleagues to share their teaching experiences and resources gained from OBL trials.
Aligning other courses delivered by the SES in the coming academic year (e.g. for GE, PGDE and etc.) with OBL.
Impact:
This study provided a very fruitful opportunity not only for the project team, but also for all academic/ teaching members of the SES department to actively prepare for the implementation of OBL. Staff members were well acknowledged for their participation through experience-sharing seminars, meetings and seminars held with the two visitors in March and April 2010, and the transformation of course outlines to OBL format. OBL became a hot issue for discussion and this helped to prepare colleagues of the Department of its implementation in the next academic year.
