Abstract:
This project aims to revolutionize finance education at EdUHK by integrating generative AI tools like ChatGPT to create experiential learning environments. It addresses critical challenges in traditional pedagogy: students’ difficulty applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, limited access to practical experiences like internships, and the inability to personalize learning and assessments. The initiative will develop AI-driven simulations that replicate authentic finance sector challenges—such as dynamic portfolio management, sustainable investment dilemmas, and retirement planning—specifically tailored for BA and MA programmes core courses including Investment Analysis, Wealth management, and Retirement Planning.
Three interconnected objectives guide the project: First, to create immersive AI simulations that bridge theory and practice. Second, to transform pedagogy by shifting assessments from static exams to dynamic evaluations of real-world decision-making. Third, to produce scalable teaching resources through an “AI Finance Educator Toolkit” for instructors and university teachers.
The project targets 100+ students and faculty while enhancing core Generic Intended Learning Outcomes: Problem Solving (GILO 1) through AI-generated financial crises; Critical Thinking (GILO 2) via AI-auditing exercises; and Global Perspectives (GILO 7) using cross-cultural market simulations.
Students will transition from passive learners to active architects—co-designing financial personas, auditing algorithmic outputs for bias, and solving regulatory challenges. Impact will be evaluated through pre/post-surveys, skill-based assessments, and validated scales measuring problem-solving and ethical reasoning. Outcomes include industry-aligned graduate readiness, open-source teaching resources, and contributions to AI-education scholarship.

Result:
The integration of generative AI will make finance courses more relevant to industry demands by focusing on practical skills. This approach will enhance teaching innovation, as AI-powered simulations offer an alternative to traditional pedagogies. The project will contribute to the academic literature on experiential learning and AI in education.
Impact:
1). For Students (Objective 1 & 2): First, Immersive Skill Development: BA/MA students gain mastery in navigating real-world finance challenges (e.g., AI-simulated ESG compliance audits, global liquidity crises) through generative AI scenarios embedded in finance courses. Second, Critical Thinking Enhancement: Shift from theoretical recall to dynamic decision-making, where AI generates evolving client demands and regulatory constraints, forcing adaptive problem-solving.
2). For Faculty (Objective 2 & 3): First, Pedagogical Transformation: Finance instructors transition from lecture-based teaching to AI-facilitated experiential guidance, using generative tools to create personalized market crises and client negotiations. Second, Resource Empowerment: Professors receive a practical “AI Finance Educator Toolkit” (manual + teaching kit) with plug-and-play simulation templates for courses like Portfolio Management and Retirement Planning.
